Teeth that are crooked or rotated are highly visible causing a person to hate their smile. Rotated teeth not only negatively affect your smile, but it can also cause many dental problems. Food can get stuck around the tooth and it’s much harder to clean a rotated tooth. This can easily lead to gum disease. Rotated or crooked teeth can also interfere with your bite.
Treatment for Rotated Teeth
There are several ways to straighten a rotated tooth. For effective and conservative treatment Dr. Sowell may recommend either Six Month Smiles® (white braces) or Invisalign® clear aligners. Both of these approaches will straighten out the tooth by slowly and comfortably shifting the tooth back into place. See the Orthodontics section for more information on these systems.
Alternative to Orthodontics
The quickest method is with direct or transitional bonding or bonded porcelain such as a porcelain veneer. In these approaches, the tooth is reshaped by bonding porcelain or composite to the front of the tooth and sculpting and finishing the material into a natural-looking tooth.
For more information on porcelain veneers or traditional bonding, see these sections under Cosmetic Dentistry. Any of these solutions can render a beautifully natural result, but each situation is different and one solution may be more practical than another. For this reason, we offer a complimentary consultation.
