Treatments for Crooked Teeth Plano, TX

Crooked or rotated teeth are highly visible, and can cause a person to dislike their smile. Rotated teeth not only negatively affect your smile, but they can also cause many dental problems. Patients with rotated teeth find it difficult to brush and floss effectively.

Crooked teeth can easily trap food, harbor harmful bacteria, and lead to gum disease. Rotated or crooked teeth can also interfere with your bite pattern, making it difficult to eat.

Fortunately, our modern dentistry offers comfortable, convenient, discreet and effective options for straightening rotated teeth. Dr. Chen offers options that include straightening teeth without traditional metal braces in our Plano dental office.

Rotated teeth treatment

Treatment for Crooked & Rotated Teeth

Dentists have several ways to straighten crooked and rotated teeth. Dr. Sowell and Dr. Chen may suggest either Six Month Smiles® or Invisalign® clear aligners. Both of these methods will fix crooked teeth by slowly and comfortably shifting them back into place.

Six Month Smiles®

With Six Month Smiles, you can quickly straighten your rotated teeth in a short period. This teeth straightening system uses white braces that are hardly noticeable. If your rotated teeth are visible in your smile zone, Six Month Smiles can correct them in less time than conventional methods. To learn more about our Six Month Smiles treatment plans, see Six Month Smiles®.

Invisalign®

Invisalign is a great way to treat rotated teeth without using metal braces. It’s a clear aligner system that uses a series of aligner trays that will realign crooked teeth. The aligners are completely see-through and removable so they gently move teeth into the right position over time. You need to wear them for 22 hours a day, but you can remove them to eat, brush, and floss.

The aligners apply steady pressure to the teeth, slowly straightening and unrotating them. You will switch out the aligners about every one to two weeks to gradually straighten your teeth. This is our most popular treatment for crooked teeth. To learn about straightening crooked teeth using clear aligners, see our Invisalign® page.

Cosmetic Alternatives to Orthodontics

The quickest method is with direct or transitional bonding or bonded porcelain, such as a porcelain veneer. However, this treatment is best for a single crooked tooth or two, like front teeth. This is strictly a cosmetic procedure and should not replace orthodontic treatment for many rotated teeth.

To begin, the dentist will reshape the tooth by bonding porcelain or composite resin to the front of the tooth. Then they will sculpt it and polish the material into a natural-looking tooth.

  • Porcelain veneers: Porcelain veneers are a permanent treatment option. The dental veneer can hide your rotated teeth rather than realign them. These ultra-thin shells can also whiten your teeth and give you an overall straighter smile. The dentist bonds them to the front of each tooth for an instant smile makeover.
  • Dental Bonding: Teeth bonding is minimally invasive and our dentists can complete the procedure in a single visit. This treatment applies a tooth-colored biocompatible composite resin directly to the tooth. The dentist sculpts it into the proper shape and form. Dental bonding is an economical cosmetic treatment that can correct your rotated teeth in an instant.

These solutions can give you a beautifully natural result. However, each case is different and one solution may be more practical than another.
