Cosmetic Tooth Bonding Plano

Cosmetic Bonding An Overview

Bonding for teeth is a way to provide long-term protection for the enamel that coats your teeth. Dental bonding also provides the following benefits:

  • Repairs decayed teeth (composite resins are used to fill cavities)
  • Repairs chipped or cracked teeth
  • Improves the appearance of discolored teeth
  • Closes gaps or spaces between teeth
  • Lengthens the appearance of teeth
  • Alters the shape of teeth
  • Provides a cosmetic alternative to metal amalgam fillings
  • Protects an exposed portion of the tooth’s root due to receding gums

There are two types of dental bonding – transitional bonding and direct bonding. These can last up to 10 years, depending on the type and extent of teeth bonding. Direct dental bonding means placing tooth-colored composite restorations (fillings) on a single tooth or multiple teeth. This is done to restore function, size or shape – or even enhance the shade of your teeth.

So my review is perhaps a bit different than most. Dr. Sowell gave me a full set of veneers four years ago. When I first saw him I was just about over everything dental. Discolored teeth, five root canals, countless…Scott

Cosmetic Bonding What to Expect

Transitional bonding can be used for anything from a mock-up to a full mouth rehabilitation. We call it “transitional” because it lets the patient transition into more permanent dentistry as he or she can afford, or as their treatment  requires. Transitional bonding also allows Dr. Mark Sowell time to work out any bite-related and esthetic issues with your smile. Transitional bonding is an important tool for such an accomplished cosmetic dentist.

Transitional bonding is most often used when a patient needs a phased solution to their problem. The result is usually 80% as nice as an ideal ceramic or porcelain result if done by a master at handling, contouring, layering and polishing composites. As an accredited member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Dr. Sowell has demonstrated his skills before a board of cosmetic dental examiners. These direct bondings are done directly and dependent on the dentist’s sculpting skill and ability. They work well for many years and can be replaced by porcelain ceramics in a phased approach over time. Often, transitional bondings are used for younger teenage and 20-something patients because they are more affordable than ceramics.
