That’s because our mouthguards are custom-made to fit your or your child’s teeth. They are an exact duplication of your mouth. They even fit comfortably and safely over braces.

Over-the-counter mouthguards require your mouth to be clenched for maximum protection. This can lead to tension in the face, headaches, and jaw pain. These standard boil-and-bite mouthguards lead one to believe that they offer protection because they are custom-formed to your teeth, but this is untrue. They do not provide the necessary amount of thickness required to actually protect teeth.

PlaySafe Sports Mouthguard Fabrication

At your appointment, Dr. Chen or Dr. Sowell will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth. These will be used to create exact model casts of your teeth. A dental lab models your mouthguard based on the casts. It will take about two weeks from your initial appointment until you receive your PlaySafe mouthguard.

PlaySafe sports mouthguards are available in an assortment of colors. You can also customize it with your team’s logo. If needed, you can get an optional helmet strap in red or black. Your mouthguard depends on the sport you’re playing and your age.

PlaySafe sports mouthguards layer various-density materials. The soft protective layer is against the teeth, and the hardest layer is on the outside to absorb shocks or blows. There are six levels of protection, each being made of one to three layers.

  • Junior: Designed for children
  • Light: Designed for wrestling, volleyball, mountain biking, and motocross
  • Light Pro: Provides maximum protection for all sports
  • Medium: Designed for soccer, rugby, basketball, softball, rollerblading, and skateboarding
  • Heavy: Designed for baseball, football, racquetball, martial arts, and kickboxing
  • Heavy Pro: Designed for hockey, kickboxing, or any sport with heavy blows, especially with sticks
