Patient Focused Dentistry in Plano, Texas
It starts with the first telephone call you make to the office. When you call to schedule your appointment, we will ask you questions so our first session together will go smoothly and we can customize our care to meet your particular needs.
This is your first visit to our Plano, TX dental office, a chance to meet Dr. Sowell and the staff, and more importantly a chance for Dr. Sowell to learn about your dental wants and needs. You will be greeted by our patient concierge, who will give you an office tour and answer all your dental questions. Then Dr. Sowell will spend personal one-on-one time with you to learn about your wants, needs, and goals for your smile and dental health.
Dr. Sowell considers this the most important appointment of all, as understanding what a patient wants is the foundation for which direction treatment will go. Once Dr. Sowell understands the changes you would like to have and how you would like to get there, he usually takes some high-resolution professional photographs of your smile so that between appointments he can create computer images of what you asked to have changed. Often, a second image is included with the changes Dr. Sowell thinks would be the most pleasing, including things you did not include or were not aware of.
Through this process, you can see in a very personal way what you asked for and what is possible. At the end of this visit, you will need to decide if you want to return, and if so the patient concierge schedules your next dental appointment, which is the clinical examination (learning about the patient’s teeth and supporting tissues). Between appointments, Dr. Sowell will prepare cosmetic imaging to show before and after for the two different options.
Dental Insurance & Payment Options
If you have dental insurance (assistance), we will fill out your insurance forms for you. You can enter your account information, medical history and e-mail address through our website. Wouldn’t it be nice to come in and have no paperwork to do at that first dental appointment? We can keep in touch with you by using your e-mail address when you cannot be reached by phone. We will ask you if you have any immediate dental discomfort or cosmetic concerns, so we can customize your first appointment to meet your needs.
Once you arrive, your patient concierge will greet you and escort you through your appointment. She will explain everything to you, answer all your questions during the appointment and be your personal contact afterward. You’ll have a relationship with your concierge, who knows your concerns. She is there to meet your needs. Your concierge will review your account information, applicable insurance and medical and dental history. Then you will have a personal interview with Dr. Sowell. He will listen and learn about your personal needs and understand the level of dental healthcare you would like to have. Dr. Sowell likes to get to know all his patients, as he feels it allows him to better care for you.
Clinical Dental Exam
Next will be the examination, where we take your digital X-rays. The radiation exposure is equivalent to sitting in front of a television for two hours. Dr. Sowell will thoroughly examine your soft tissues, gums, teeth and TMJ. Models will be made and digital photos will be taken if you have cosmetic concerns, at no additional fee.
Dr. Sowell will answer all your questions about the examination and your concierge will make your consultation appointment. Between your examination and consultation appointments, Dr. Sowell will study your X-rays and video, run tests and review your personal dental goals. After the examination, Dr. Sowell will share your cosmetic imaging photographs he has prepared.
Sometimes he will do an in-the-mouth mock-up to get your reaction, often to evaluate the feel of new teeth. He will then listen to your response and opinion to the different options. From this information, he will prepare a written report he believes will enable you to achieve your goals. At your consultation appointment, Dr. Sowell will review the oral health report with you, and together you will decide what options are best for you. There is no additional fee for the consultation. Our goal is to be your friend working toward your dental life plan and helping you develop your lifetime plan for dental health.
Treatment Consultation – Discussing Your Options
Now that Dr. Sowell has been able to discuss the different options, he is able to develop a treatment plan to reach the goal or result you have chosen. This appointment is to show you your video review of your oral health, photographs taken and imaging of desired changes. Once we confirm your desires are being addressed, the treatment plan and oral report are reviewed, including required visit times, commitment and fees. Financial arrangements are made and appointments are reserved. Once all this is worked out, we are ready to start. Now we can start creating a beautiful, healthy smile.
